Mission Statement

The goal of the Center for Undergraduate Research in Mathematics (CURMath) (subsequently called the Center) is to enhance undergraduate education in mathematics at Youngstown State University (YSU). The Center shall accomplish this goal by assisting the members of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, or whatever department houses the major in mathematics (subsequently called the Department), to promote the professional development and research activities of undergraduate students interested in mathematics at YSU. Beneficiaries shall include, but not be limited to, students who are majors in the Department. The activities of the Center include, but are not restricted to:

  • Giving high quality presentations at regional and national mathematics meetings;
  • Participating in national and international mathematical competitions;
  • Assisting students in work leading to mathematical publications;
  • Teaching students leadership and service within the discipline;
  • Helping students to develop skills that will enable them to become leaders in education, business and industry;
  • Promoting mathematical activities that lead to better recognition of the Department and the University at the regional and national level.

The goal of the Center is to continue to provide an outstanding undergraduate education in the mathematical sciences for YSU students.
